The move to the new home
Some of you will no doubt be wondering how to transport your new garden inhabitants. The best and cheapest option is a large cardboard box or a moving box for heavyweights such as Jersey Giants. Poke a few air holes in the box with a screwdriver and the transport box is ready.
To secure the lid, you can close it with a piece of adhesive tape or with additional holes and cable ties. Then place one or two layers of newspaper in the box so that you can throw away the overcooked newspaper after transportation and use the box again. If the droppings on the newspaper are a little diarrhea-like, don’t worry, this is due to stress and will disappear.

A cardboard box is also the better choice than a real transport box for another reason. It is dark in the box, so the chickens calm down more quickly and stay a little more relaxed. In the box they would be able to look out and possibly panic, that doesn’t have to be, it’s torture. Similar to a falcon that has a hood on.
Another thing you should bear in mind is that you should not necessarily travel at the hottest times in summer. So either get them quite early in the day or in the evening, as chickens are relatively sensitive to heat. And none of us wants to drive a car when it’s 35 degrees in the shade, especially if it’s a long distance.
