General information about Yokohama
The Yokohama is an ornamental chicken breed that originated in Japan and came to Europe in 1864. These lightweights among the large breeds belong to the group of long-tailed chickens.
Appearance of Yokohamas
The magnificent long tail is a breed characteristic of these elegant chickens. This can become so long in the cock that it drags on the ground. The legs are yellow, the small comb and the wattles are red. Yokohama cocks can weigh up to 2.5 kg.

Keeping Yokohamas
Due to the length of their tails, it is better to keep these chickens in large covered enclosures. They need a lot of space and always a clean floor, otherwise the rooster’s long white tail would always get dirty and break off the feathers. For the same reason, the perch in the coop should be at least 1 m above the floor so that the tail can hang freely. Of course they can fly well with their low weight.
Character of Yokohamas
Unfortunately, it has to be said that Yokohama cocks are quite aggressive towards humans, but not towards each other. In general, they are very lively and full of character. The hens have a good breeding instinct.
Eggs from Yokohama chickens
The ladies lay approx. 80 eggs per year, weighing approx. 40g, which are reddish yellow to yellow in color.
