General information about Vorwerk
These chickens were bred around 1900 by Oskar Vorwerk from Hamburg and are considered dual-purpose chickens. They include Lakenfelder, Orpingtons, Ramelsloher and Andalusians. After the Second World War, the breed was almost extinct, which is why they are so rare today and have been added to the Red List of endangered livestock breeds.
Appearance of Vorwerks
With their unusual combination of markings and colors, they are quite unique in the world of chickens. This pattern takes a long time to develop and can often only be clearly recognized after the second moult. The legs are slate gray, the head is adorned with a red single comb, red wattles and the ear discs are white. The birds have yellow-greyish beaks. Vorwerk cockerels weigh up to 3 kg.

Character of Vorwerks
The animals are lively and active and not at all shy, on the contrary they are extremely curious. It doesn’t take much effort to get them tame. If you have enough space, they get along very well and even several cockerels are no problem.
Eggs from Vorwerk chickens
The hens lay approx. 55g, light yellowish eggs, of which approx. 170 are laid quite reliably in winter.
