Keeping of old Styrians
They are a strong and very robust breed of country chicken that do not make great demands as long as they have enough exercise. Ideally unlimited. Styrians are keen foragers and the hens are just as keen to breed. They are excellent fliers and nothing will stop them. Not only can they fly high, they can also fly far – there are reports of them flying over 100 meters. You should only buy this breed if you have a large enough property, a farm is ideal. But then you don’t have to feed them in summer because they will look for everything themselves.
Character of Old Styrians
Styrians are a very lively breed that have few quarrels with each other. However, as they have remained so original and should only be kept in large enclosures, they will never become tame. One of the reasons for this is that they lack a bond with humans.
Eggs from Altsteirer chickens
Altsteirer hens lay approx. 180 white eggs weighing approx. 55g.
