General information about Groninger Möwen
The Groninger Seagull or Groninger Meeuwe was bred at the end of the 18th century on the Nordgronigner Grund in the Netherlands from chicken breeds with dark brown eyes and the East Frisian Seagull. Groningers belong to the speckled hens and are not recognized as a breed by the BDRG.
Appearance of Groningen seagulls
The eyes of the gulls are dark brown. They have a medium-sized single crest , which lays slightly to one side at the rear of laying hens. The ear lobes are white and the legs are slate gray. The beak, on the other hand, is light yellow. Cocks can weigh up to 3 kg.
Existing dwarf form

Keeping Groningen gulls
Like the East Frisian Gull, Groningers are excellent fliers, so this must be taken into account before deciding on these pretty chickens.
The run must therefore be well fenced – preferably covered – if you don’t want them to visit the neighbors. If you let them out and they have enough space, they will forage for themselves.
Character of Groninger Seagulls
Groningers are a lively and robust breed. Like all country chicken breeds, they are somewhat shy of humans but not fearful. With a little “attention” and patience, however, they do become quite tame. They do not breed very readily, although there are exceptions.
Eggs from Groningen seagulls
The hens lay approx. 200 white/light brown – rather elongated – eggs weighing approx. 53g from the age of 5 months.
