Information on the Breda chicken breed
Screamers
General information about Breda
The Breda is an old Dutch meat breed that belongs to the large chicken family. They are also called Kraaikop in their homeland, which they owe to the vocal power of the roosters. Their exact origins are unknown, but hood hens must have played a major role. Bredas are called Kraaikop in Dutch, the Dutch breed Twents hoen is called Kraienkopp in German – this can be quite confusing.
Appearance of Bredas
The animals are adorned with a red crest, behind which sits a small crest of feathers. The small, round wattles are also red and the ear discs are white. The legs of the breed are heavily feathered. The eyes have an orange-red color. Their upright posture and the very steeply set tail are typical of this breed. The cocks weigh between 2 and 2.5 kg.

Keeping Bredas
Due to their weight, they are not very good at flying. They are very robust and vital. Like other chickens, they enjoy a large run. Nevertheless, they make no special demands on their housing.
Character of Bredas
Bredas are very calm and good-natured animals that can sometimes become very tame. The hens rarely get into a breeding mood.
Eggs from Breda hens
The hens lay approx. 160 white eggs weighing approx. 55g. They also do this very reliably in winter.
