General information about the Brabanter
Brabants are a very old breed originating from the Netherlands. They have been around since the end of the 16th century. They are descended from European crested chickens, among others. Paduans and Crève-Coeur are also among their ancestors. This large breed is an ornamental chicken.
Appearance of Brabants
The legs are grayish blue, the beaks yellow and black. The ear lobes are white, the single crest and wattles are a rich red. The small cap does not grow on the top of the skull. Orange-red eyes observe everything very curiously. The males normally weigh around 2.5 kg.

Keeping Brabanters
These chickens are very lively animals that can fly very well thanks to their large wings. They impress with their eager foraging and like to be kept in large enclosures or free-range. They mature very late by nature and the hens do not start laying eggs until they are around 6 months old.
Character of Brabantern
Their vital but pleasant temperament makes up for the fact that you have to put more effort into taming them than with other breeds. A lot of patience and a handful of food often work wonders. However, they are unlikely to become hand-tame.
Eggs from Brabant hens
The hens lay approx. 170 pure white eggs weighing approx. 52g.
